Here's a few new links for the New Year.
Grade 8:
Cartoon Symphony arr. by Larry Clark
Chorale from Jupiter by Gustav Holst arr. by Curnow
(this link is not the arrangment we're studying, but it is an excellent recording)
Jazz Band:
C Jam Blues
This is a highschool group, and there are some smokin' soloists featured.
This is one of my favourite versions. It features Ella Fitzgerald. She does some amazing things with her voice. What an instrument.
Grade 7
Magma by Larry Clark
This version is performed by an orchestra of grade 3-6 students. I think it's great.
This is the version we are playing. This is a really good band.
Hope these are useful.

Welcome all band students. The year is off and rolling very quickly! I am very excited about the music and sounds we've been able to make in the band room. It is going to be a great year!
Some exciting events coming up:
Beginning Band Workshop! Friday Sept 25th (6:45 pm-9:00 pm) and Saturday Sept. 26th (9:00am-12:30 pm) - This is one of the best weekends in the band year. All the beginner students get together and work with instrument specialists. They definitely don't sound like beginners at the end of the weekend. Students need their instruments, and red books...but do not need to be dressed up. Public Concert on Saturday in Gymnasium at 11:30am!
Static in the Stars- October 15th 11:00am at SVRSS. A Manitoba based band is going to host a session for all grade 7-12 students that will cover topics such as making it in the music business. This should be an exciting and rare opportunity for our grade 7 & 8 students.
Band Booster AGM-October 20th in SVRSS cafeteria. Grade 8 band will be performing. Students need to be dressed in black pants and shirts. They need their music and instruments for the performance. All parents are encouraged to come out to the meeting and concert. We need to support our band booster club because they do an excellent job of supporting our students.

Getting Started
This is my first attempt at blogging. I wanted to set up a blog for my band students and their parents as another means of communicating band happenings for the year. Hopefully it will be a helpful and informative tool.
Here it goes!
